The New York City performance and art world is not for the faint of heart, but this doesn't stop Daniella Sinder from taking it by storm. Dabbling in everything from photography to writing, to acting and more, Daniella is a creative force to be reckoned with and proof that a full, successful life is often a multi-passionate one. So keep reading for her thoughts on limiting beliefs, poetry and Succession-style stagings of Macbeth.

Hi Daniella, Please introduce your wonderful self!

My name is Daniella Sinder (she/her) and I'm a Brooklyn based creative. I got my BFA in acting in 2018 and moved right to the city after graduating. I currently freelance as a natural light portrait photographer, brand ambassador, and writer when in between auditions and acting jobs. I live with my partner, who is also an artist, and we have a 5 year old French bulldog, named Teddy!

Can you tell us about what it’s like to pursue acting in the Big Apple?

Pursuing an acting career in New York is both creatively invigorating and occasionally demoralizing! When I graduated college, I had a lot of unlearning to do with regard to restrictive ideals that had been instilled in me about my appearance and self-worth.

During my conservatory training, I internalized many negative beliefs about my body and my sexuality, which made it difficult to approach auditions from a healthy place. Ironically, the pandemic gave me the space I needed to come out and work on healing my relationship with myself. I've since had a much easier time approaching the craft of acting from an authentic, grounded headspace.

How and when did you discover your passion for the performing arts?

I grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago and saw a lot of professional theater growing up. It wasn't until high school that I began training and dipping a toe into the world of performing. Those years watching professional actors at work really lit a fire in me and granted me the chance to learn by observing.

What’s your dream role?

I saw Gemma Arterton in a semi-contemporary production of Saint Joan at the Donmar Warehouse in London a few years ago, and it became my absolute dream. I would love to undertake a contemporary, political staging of a classical drama. Succession-style staging of Macbeth? Sign me up.

Any advice for others hoping to do what you’re doing?

My advice would be: Find as many outlets for your creativity as possible! And, if at all financially feasible, keep some of your art for yourself alone. For a long time, I believed that everything I made needed to be marketable and intended for public consumption. But artists don't have to constantly be entities! Your worth stands apart from what you're involved in creating.

What fun things are you currently loving?

I have MUNA's album "Saves The World" on repeat every train ride. My partner and I have been reading a lot of poetry by the brilliant Alok Vaid-Menon. I also routinely watch old interviews by writer and showrunner/filmmaker Brit Marling, because I think she has a beautiful outlook on creativity and storytelling.

What's something you're really proud of right now?

I'm proud of myself for getting involved in a weekly poetry share group! It's a nice, non-goal-oriented way of encouraging, and being encouraged by, other writers.
