Wear is She Wednesday: Kaitlin Harris
Does anyone else want to throw an impromptu dinner party with Kaitlin Harris? She's proof that beauty and brains are certainly not mutually exclusive. Not only does she possess an immaculate eye for style, she's also a gifted writer and can make a cake prettier than the ones in your deepest cottagecore fantasies. In fact, maybe it's just easier to share the things she can't do... because that seems to be a much shorter list.
She's certainly a woman of many talents and you're going to love getting to know her, so keep reading for her thoughts on David Lynch, good cowboy boots and dream colleges.
Hi Kaitlin, Please introduce your wonderful self!
Hi, readers! My name is Kaitlin Harris. I am an 18 y/o aspiring author and student pursuing a degree in English/Creative Writing. I draw a mound of inspiration for my writing from indie, cult-classic films and series, such as the works of David Lynch and Kubrick. I’ve completely fallen in love with the art of curating words and sequencing film frames to produce full bodies of work and truly hope to fuse these two passions within my future. I currently reside in Alabama (yes, it is as miserable as you think) but am working on relocating to Boston.
How would you describe your style in 3 words?
vintage, masculine, ethereal
Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?
I draw a lot of inspiration from powerfully captivating artists, such as Sade Adu and Solange Knowles. I love and adore Jenny from @wearilive and her lovely friend Isabelle, @isabelleestrin. Ney, @neyon_tree, is an incredible woman who captivates the everyday beauty of bodily expression; she also pole dances in Solange’s “Almeda.” Although my current feed highlights colorful and playful aspects of my style, I have adopted a more masculine variant within my wardrobe. A typical outfit now consists of a menswear button-down, an oversized trouser pant or Levis, gold jewelry, and New Balances or loafers (or a good cowboy boot).
What does personal style mean to you?
Personal style, for me, really blends deeply with one’s philosophy and outlook. I think that style can be a beautiful reflection of how someone views their outside and internal worlds. It’s a fun way to make connections but also a dangerous leisure that can result in generalizations if you aren’t an open-minded person.
What's on your thrift list right now?
I’ve been dying for a Frisson Handknits sweater but am currently on the hunt for the perfect sweater vest, slate grey and black blazers, a long wool coat, and a long scarf!
Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?
So fun! Definitely Sade, Zoë Kravitz, Solange, and River Phoenix.
What's something you're really proud of right now?
I am proud of making it through the mundanities of day-to-day obligations within a small city. Although unable to attend this year, I am proud of the dedication that landed me acceptances within two dream colleges and hold to the philosophy that prestigious education in the arts does not overshadow independent artistry.
